Wte Thunder vs West End Titans 4-5
Played Saturday 28th May 2011.
Played at Aorangi Park, Timaru at 10:00am.
Player of the day: Alex
Coach Tim said, "Well after a very strong start in the game yesterday, it was a little disappointing that we could not hold West End off in the second. They won the game with a really awesome long range strike, too good for any defence. Well done to our player of the day Alex, with some excellent tidying up work in defence and creating opportunities for the forwards. Alex, you have been full of energy in all of our games this year, keep it up!
Well done to my 'keepers, Edward and Katarina, and to Hamish and Layton for potting two goals apiece."

Wte Torpedoes vs Temuka Cubs 2-1
Saturday 21st May 2011
Played at Gunnion Square, Timaru at 10:40am
Team players today: Connor, Noah, Rhys, Jonathan, Michaela and Jaden
Player of the day: Michaela
Coach Rochelle said, "Wow I think Gunnion Square 2 might be 10th Grade size! Our team worked really hard only there was a lot of field to cover and only having one sub meant only one break each! A great game to watch : the teams were fairly evenly matched on offence and defence, everyone wanted the ball so it was a real tussle at times and a few bodies hit the ground. Jaden took a hard knock to his knee - well done to him for carrying on playing until the end! We have great little burglars (stealing the ball) in our team, everyone gets right in there we just need to work on spreading out more so once we have the ball there are more options to pass to rather than all being a bit close. The Cubs did manage to get a fair share of the ball but as soon as it was down their end too far, it was always kicked back up the field - awesome defence kids! I was very proud of my team today - well done!!"
Wte Thunder vs Pleasant Point 7-4
Saturday 21st May 2011
Played at Centennial School, Waimate at 10.30am
Player of the day: Angus
Coach Tim said, "It was great to play again on our home pitch. The Point coach was very complimentary of our field and facilities and scoreboard attendant!
Well done to the goal scorers - Layton (2), Hamish (4) and the mighty Angus. These goals came from great teamwork, with Alex driving the players forward from the 'stopper' position.
A special mention to Kate and Edward in goal. Not an easy place to play, but you both did super.
A great game from Angus with a goal and two assists. A special thanks to the supporters, what a rowdy bunch :) "

Refreshments
This week saw the opening of the Waimate teams' refreshment stall, selling hot and cold drinks and yummy cakes and muffins. Everything is $1 and all the money is going directly to the soccer club to help the committee develop and support the teams. Please bring along your loose change when your team is playing at home and enjoy a drink on the side-lines while shouting for your team.
Wte Torpedoes vs WE Grantlea Downs Blue 12-0
Saturday 14th May 2011
Played at Centennial School, Waimate at 10am
Player of the Day: Noah
Team Players: Jayden, Jonathan, Connor, Michaela, Rhys, Noah and Hannah
Coach Rochelle said, "Was really exciting to wake up to a gorgeous sunny day - Yay we get to play!! Today we had an awesome game against Grantlea Downs Blue. Although due to weather we haven't managed to have a practice for ages the team focused and worked well together. The score reveals a great attack and defence game! At every opportunity the ball was chased down, stolen and run away with down to our end to score a goal. Everyone put in 100% effort - maybe our new goals had something to do with wanting to use them, and having a scoreboard there that needed to be used - thanks very much to Hazel! Great work team!"
Wte Giants vs West End Knights 2-8
Saturday 14th May 2011
Played at Centennial School, Waimate at 10.40am
Manager Sharon said, "Today's loss showed that the wet weather and no practice made it hard for them to play as a team."
Wte Thunder vs WE Queens Park Rangers 0-9
Saturday 14th May 2011
Played at Sir Basil Arthur Park, Timaru at 10am
Coach Tim said, "It was good to get on back on the right sized field even if it was a bit slippery.
Despite coming up against a very well drilled team with experienced players in QPR, I was really pleased with my players' effort through both halves of the game.
With a little bit of luck in the second half we could have scored a couple of goals and put them under more pressure. Well done Hamish, our player of the day. Very little got past you as our stopper in defence."
Player of the day: Hamish
